No country accepts US interference in Strait of Hormuz: Leader’s advisor
A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has stated that no country, including European states, accepts US interference in the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the strategic waterway is a matter for regional countries.
Speaking on Saturday, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, former chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), said the Strait of Hormuz “has nothing to do with the US government.”
“This issue concerns the countries of the region, and the entire world uses this waterway. It is therefore unclear on what grounds or under what pretext the United States seeks to interfere in it,” he noted.
He further said that “Even European countries do not agree with arbitrary US interference in the Strait of Hormuz, and no country accepts such intervention.”
Rezaei said the Strait of Hormuz differs from other strategic waterways because it serves as the entrance to the Persian Gulf rather than connecting two oceans or seas.
Questioning Washington’s presence in the Persian Gulf, he said, “What business does the United States have in the Strait of Hormuz, and why should it enter the Persian Gulf?”
Rezaei added that Iran now views any US presence in the Strait of Hormuz with suspicion, saying, “We were at war, and we still are.”
The US has been attacking Iran since earlier in July after Washington violated the terms of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which was meant to permanently end the war that the US and Israeli regime unleashed against Iran in late February.
The MoU recognized Iran’s rights and sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, and said Iran was responsible for removing restrictions that it has imposed over the Strait of Hormuz for vessels affiliated with aggressors and their supporters since the start of the aggression on February 28.
However, the US attempted to undermine Iran’s sovereignty by establishing an unsafe corridor near the Omani shores.
The unlawful US measure prompted Iran’s firm response to re-impose restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran says any movement in the strategic chokepoint must be conducted under Iranian arrangements, as per the understanding.
