Vital medical cargo released from Iranian-flagged vessel pirated by US: Red Crescent Society
A shipment of vital medical supplies and equipment intended for the production of dialysis treatment products has been released 95 days after the Iranian-flagged vessel carrying it was pirated by US forces in the Sea of Oman, according to the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS).
On Tuesday, Razieh Alishvandi, deputy for international affairs and humanitarian law at the IRCS, said the cargo aboard the vessel Touska was released following sustained follow-up efforts by the organization through international and humanitarian channels.
According to Alishvandi, the vessel was carrying medical supplies and equipment required for dialysis patients when it was seized by “American pirates” on April 19.

The official said the IRCS pursued the case by sending formal communications and conducting follow-up efforts through 17 international and humanitarian organizations.
The shipment consists of eight containers, Alishvandi said, adding that part of the cargo was delivered on Monday, while the remaining containers were handed over on Tuesday to a company affiliated with the Iranian Red Crescent Society.
According to the official, the shipment contains raw materials and equipment needed to manufacture dialysis treatment equipment. She said the materials will be processed and converted into finished medical products before being distributed to patients.
Alishvandi said the arrival of the shipment will help ensure the supply of essential dialysis equipment required for the treatment of approximately 44,000 dialysis patients across Iran.
The vessel’s seizure came in line with an illegal blockade of Iranian ports and vessels announced by Donald Trump, despite the terms of a ceasefire that the US president, himself, had declared on April 7.
The ceasefire was declared after 40 days of wholesale unprovoked aggression by the US and the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic.
A Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding was agreed last month, but the United States began violating its provisions on numerous occasions.
The Islamic Republic has faced each violation with decisive retaliation, besides closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz pending cessation of Washington’s interference in regional maritime movement.
