Pentagon says over 640 troops killed or wounded in ‘quiet’ database update on Iran war
The US Department of War has updated its casualty database, raising the total number of American forces either killed or wounded during Washington’s unprovoked war on Iran to 642, according to figures published over the weekend.
The revised data came after the department added more than 140 wounded personnel to its “Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS)” and created a new casualty category called “Overseas Operations” covering personnel killed and wounded “starting July 7.”
Observers commenting on the matter described the move as a “quiet” update. They noted how Washington was trying to ascribe a generic-sounding title for the casualties, while attacks targeting the Islamic Republic currently dominate the United States' acts of military adventurism abroad.
The update came after the Islamic Republic scaled up its retaliation strategy in response to American violations, pledging to strike enemy targets at a ratio of at least two to one, meaning that for every Iranian target hit, at least two enemy targets will be struck in return.

The retaliation has featured extensive strikes by the Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) against sensitive and strategic American targets across the region. The targets have especially included the US radar facilities in order to pave the way for increasingly stronger reprisal.
Days earlier, the Department of War stirred controversy by reducing the recorded casualties that had occurred from February 27 until April 7, when the United States and the Israeli regime joined each other in waging wholesale unprovoked aggression against Iran. The move saw the department reduce the casualties from 18 deaths and 482 wounded to 14 deaths and more than 400 wounded.
The latest update that took place over the weekend still insisted on the watered-down version.
On Saturday, however, IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi said that more than 200 Americans had been killed as a result of Iran’s retaliation, which was intensified after the US began violating a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides last month.
“The figures released by the Americans regarding their personnel casualties are completely false. The number of American personnel killed in Operation Nasr (Victory)-2 exceeds 200, while the number of wounded is significantly higher,” he added, referring by codename to the Corps’ latest series of counterstrikes.
“In the [retaliatory] attacks on American targets, we struck eight troop deployment centers. At one of those sites alone, there were 20 hangars, all of which were destroyed,” the official said, adding, “The American people should not allow their lying commanders to treat them as fools.”
