Israeli forces launch artillery shells at agricultural lands in Syria’s Quneitra

Israeli occupation forces have carried out military offensives in the countryside of Syria’s southwestern province of Quneitra near the occupied strategic Golan Heights, launching artillery shells at agricultural lands in the region.

The local al-Ikhbariyah Syria television news channel reported that the forces hit areas close to the village of Tarnajah on Sunday, but did not provide any details about possible casualties and the extent of damage caused.

According to the broadcaster, Israeli troops also moved forward before sunrise towards the villages of Maariya and al-Ardah located in the Yarmouk Basin region of western Dara’a.

The report said the military force, made up of three vehicles and a bulldozer, moved into the area, opened a road, and set up a checkpoint within the village of al-Ardah.

The developments come as visiting UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is anticipated to visit the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the occupied Golan Heights to help oversee adherence to the ceasefire agreement between Syria’s HTS regime and Israel.

Guterres arrived in Damascus on Saturday for a three-day visit.

“Violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are unacceptable and must cease. What is happening in the region around the Golan Heights is totally unacceptable,” Guterres said at a news conference in Damascus on Saturday.

Israel expands Syrian invasion by entering new areas in Quneitra

The Israeli regime enters villages in Syria’s Quneitra region, erecting a checkpoint in the area.

He emphasized the United Nations’ dedication to Syria’s territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty, urging an end to all Israeli violations, and noting that what rightfully belongs to the Syrians “is Syrian and cannot be taken away.”

After the collapse of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government in early December 2024, the Israeli military has been carrying out airstrikes targeting military sites, installations, and stockpiles once managed by the Syrian army.

Israel has encountered significant backlash for terminating the 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria and exploiting the disorder in the war-ravaged country to acquire land.

The UN and various Arab countries denounced Israel’s actions as violations of international law and infringements on Syria’s sovereignty.

Even with the HTS’s promises of collaboration with Tel Aviv, Israel has consistently refused to depart from Syria.

The two sides have been involved in intermittent discussions to secure a “safety pact,” yet no agreement or significant progress has been reported.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed his military to advance further into Syrian territory past the Golan Heights occupied since 1967 and capture multiple key sites.

Most Israeli strikes have been focused in the southern Syrian provinces of Quneitra, Dara’a, and Damascus, representing around 80 percent of all documented Israeli assaults.
