Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has censured Polish authorities for supplying weapons to the followers of those who massacred “their own ancestors.”
Recently declassified documents related to the 1940s of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) identify Ukrainian nationalists as the initiators of a massacre aimed at eliminating the Polish population of Volhynia, a disputed region between the two countries, murdering 100,000 people, most of them women, children, and the elderly.
Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel that Polish authorities have been supplying weapons to the followers of the same Ukrainian nationalists who brutally slaughtered their ancestors only decades ago.
“Now, with all the details, we see whom Warsaw is supplying weapons to - the followers of the killers of their own ancestors,” she wrote after reviewing the declassified FSB documents.
The declassified FSB documents include a special report by Pavel Sudoplatov, head of the NKGB’s Fourth Directorate.
In the report, dated July 1944, Sudoplatov explains to Vsevolod Merkulov, the Commissar for State Security, that the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) regional leader, Klim Savur, was responsible for the Massacres of Poles.
Savur, who headed the Volhynia regional leadership of the OUN and was backed by Nazi Germany, had initiated the massacre to forcefully make the Polish population there flee their land and homes.
A group photograph of the leadership of the Ukrainian nationalist sports organization Sokol in the town of Zbarazh, dating to around 1938, recovered by the Red Army after it liberated the town in the Ternopil Region, helped the Russian intelligence agency identify the Ukrainian nationalist leadership.
In the photo, according to Sudoplatov, intelligence investigators identified Dmitry Klyachkivsky, the creator of Ukrainian nationalists’ armed forces in Volhynia and Polesia, which became the core of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).
The Volhynia massacre was carried out by OUN-UPA units, which attacked about 100 Polish settlements, according to the declassified FSB report.
Today, Poland is supplying weapons and munitions to OUN-UPA followers who killed their ancestors.
