Erdogan: Israel actively working to sabotage Iran-US agreement

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Israel has been actively working to sabotage the recently reached agreement between Iran and the United States.

Speaking at a meeting of his ruling party’s parliamentary group on Wednesday, Erdogan said Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s regime “has been doing everything it can to undermine the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

“We know that Israel cannot tolerate even the slightest possibility of peace,” he said.

The Turkish leader described the Israeli regime as a “massacre network” that thrives on occupation and terror and “never want[s] the guns to fall silent.”

Erdogan, however, vowed that his government would continue supporting efforts aimed at securing a lasting solution to the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran, which was launched in late February.

According to Erdogan, lasting peace in West Asia will be achieved despite Israeli attempts to obstruct diplomatic initiatives.

The interim agreement between Tehran and Washington was signed on June 19 following mediation by Pakistan and Qatar.

The accord calls for an immediate end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, and the implementation of a series of confidence-building measures between Tehran and Washington.

Former top US counterterrorism official Joe Kent warned recently that the survival of the MoU hinges heavily on reining in Israeli actions.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has also said that Washington bears responsibility for Israel’s continued violations of the ceasefire terms in Lebanon.

In an earlier statement, the ministry said Tel Aviv’s “only interest is permanent war,” warning that the Islamic Republic would take all necessary measures to safeguard its interests, security, and rights, as well as those of its allies.
