President Pezeshkian to visit Pakistan for high-level talks

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian will travel to Pakistan for consultations and discussions with Pakistani officials, his office announced.

Habibollah Abbasi, director of the public relations of the presidential office, said on Monday that Pezeshkian is scheduled to depart Tehran for Islamabad on Tuesday for the official visit.

He added that the key objectives of Pezeshkian’s trip include expressing gratitude to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, which led to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two sides.

The continuation of consultations between the two countries at the highest level, fostering bilateral cooperation, and following up on previous economic cooperation agreements are among other issues on the agenda of the visit.

Last week, the Iranian and American presidents remotely signed the 14-point Islamabad MoU, which brings about a permanent end to the illegal US-Israeli war of aggression against the Islamic Republic.

The deal includes a commitment from both countries to hold further talks to finalize an agreement in the next 60 days.

The MoU calls for a permanent end to hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon, phased lifting of US sanctions, removal of the naval blockade on Iran, and restoration of commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days.

On Sunday, the first round of four-party talks involving Iran, the United States, and mediators Pakistan and Qatar was held in Switzerland, where the Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, called for the full implementation of the memorandum.
