Russia has restricted fuel sales and introduced rationing in Crimea amid an energy supply shortage after Ukrainian forces strike Russian oil refineries.

In a statement on Telegram on Saturday, Governor Sergey Aksyonov said fuel will be sold only to government agencies responsible for maintaining the peninsula’s operations and security.

“I ask everyone to remain calm and trust only official sources of information,” he wrote, stressing that all further decisions regarding the fuel market will be announced later.

In an earlier announcement, Aksyonov said that 4 people had been killed in the Ukrainian forces recent attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Saturday that Ukraine staged a deadly strike on the Tyumen Oil Refinery over 2,000 km from Ukraine's border.

Zelensky claimed the country's modernized Fire Point drones were capable of targeting facilities far inside Russian territory. He said the upgraded Ukrainian drone was capable of striking targets 3,000 km away.

He vowed that Kiev forces would continue to go deep into the country to target Russia's infrastructure.

Between June 12 and June 18, Kiev's forces targeted multiple energy and fuel installations across Russia, damaging facilities in the Moscow area, in the Black Sea region and southern Russia, according to both Ukrainian and Russian officials.

Earlier this month, Zelensky said Ukrainian forces had struck 15 Russian oil refineries between January and May, claiming that nearly 40 percent of Russia's primary oil refining capacity was offline as of May.

The Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries led to numerous facilities shutting down for maintenance and repairs, prompting the Russian government to periodically restrict energy exports to stabilize the domestic fuel market.
