PM Sharif: Pakistani delegation to attend funeral of martyred Iranian leader

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addresses an open session of the National Assembly of Pakistan in Islamabad.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that a delegation from his country will attend the funeral of martyred Iranian leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

“My dear brother, President Masoud Pezeshkian, invited me to participate in the spiritual funeral ceremony of the martyr Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei,” Sharif told an open session of the National Assembly of Pakistan in Islamabad Friday.

“Iran is not only a friendly country, but also our brotherly nation and neighbor, and undoubtedly, the Pakistani delegation will attend the funeral of the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran between July 3 and 4,” he added.

During his speech, Sharif noted that he invited Pezeshkian to visit Islamabad, saying this is “an opportunity to further strengthen the brotherly relations between the two countries.”

Iran on Saturday announced the dates for the funeral ceremonies of the martyred Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, with commemorations and processions scheduled in Tehran, Qom and finally the burial in Mashhad.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was assassinated during the US-Israel aggression on Iran on February 28.

The US and Israel started a fresh round of aerial aggression on Iran on February 28, some eight months after they carried out unprovoked attacks on the country.

Iran began to swiftly retaliate against the strikes by launching barrages of missile and drone attacks on the Israeli-occupied territories as well as on US bases and interests in regional countries.
