Iran has joined a small group of countries capable of designing and manufacturing advanced cryogenic equipment after a domestic company developed a key cryogenic heat exchanger used in major industries.
The vice chairman of the Board of Directors and Market Development Manager of the knowledge-based company said that the equipment, now fully designed and produced inside Iran, is used in petrochemical, refining, steel, and copper industries, IRNA reported on Monday.
According to Soheilipour, the technology was subject to international restrictions and was specifically included in the European Union and US sanctions lists in 2009.
He explained that the firm had focused on developing the technology locally for years.
Production infrastructure was completed in 2020, and the first fully indigenous unit was delivered to the South Pars Gas Complex in 2021.
“This product is now entirely designed and manufactured within the country,” he remarked, adding, “The first fully localized unit was successfully supplied to South Pars after the necessary production facilities were established.”
According to the company, the cryogenic heat exchanger operates under extremely low temperatures and high pressure and is used in olefin, PDH, LNG, oxygen, and methanol units.
The cryogenic heat exchanger is widely considered one of the most critical components in large-scale industrial processing plants.
Soheilipour pointed out that only a limited number of international manufacturers possess the expertise to produce such equipment, including companies in Japan, Europe, the US, and China.
“Today, Iran has acquired the technical knowledge and capability to design and manufacture this product, becoming the sixth country in the world with this expertise,” he said.
The company noted that the equipment has already entered industrial service and has performed successfully in operational conditions.
It is also pursuing export opportunities, including a project in Venezuela involving the construction of five LNG unit boxes that is nearing completion.
The firm currently employs more than 200 specialists and engineers. Officials indicated they hope to expand production capacity and play a greater role in meeting the needs of domestic industries.
“This is a strategic product that only a limited number of countries can manufacture,” Soheilipour emphasized.
“We welcome the emergence of other domestic producers, as strengthening local capabilities will support national industry and reduce dependence on imports,” he maintained.
