Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has condemned the massacre of children in wars, saying the killing of a kid anywhere in the world amounts to the killing of all children.
He made the remarks in a message sent on Sunday to a memorial ceremony for the 168 Iranian children who were killed in illegal US-Israeli strikes on the Shajare Tayyebe Elementary School in the southern city of Minab on February 28.
He said that June 4, which marks the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, is a reminder of the killing of more than 5,000 innocent Palestinian and Lebanese children by Israel during the regime’s 1982 war on Lebanon.
He added that 44 years after that carnage, the US and the Zionist regime committed a similar crime and murdered 168 Iranian schoolchildren in Minab along with their teachers.
“The massacre of innocent children is an unforgivable crime by any divine or human standard, especially when the perpetrators of this brutal crime confess to it and proudly refer to it as part of an imposed war against the center of Islamic awakening,” Velayati said.
“Children are humanity’s common red line. Whether in Iran, Gaza and Lebanon, Afghanistan and Sudan, or anywhere else in the globe, the killing of every child in war is tantamount to the killing of all children.”
The Leader's aide also noted that the memorial ceremony provides an opportunity to call for justice for the innocent children of Iran and other countries under oppression and aggression, especially those in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
To that end, he emphasized, Tehran stands ready to cooperate with other states and play an active role in this regard.
