Iran’s Armed Forces won’t tolerate Israeli barbarism in Lebanon: Spokesman

Senior spokesman for Iran’s Armed Forces, Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi

Iran’s Armed Forces warned Israel and its allies that they will not tolerate the occupying regime’s ongoing atrocities in Lebanon, a senior military spokesman said.

Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi made the remarks on Monday, after Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, ordered the bombing of the southern suburbs of Beirut, the most serious escalation of Israel’s aggression against Lebanon since a fragile ceasefire was announced in April.

He said the child-killing Zionist regime has exploited the truce and waged blatant aggression against Lebanon, killing more than 3,000 innocent people, including women and children.

“While the rulers of Western countries have adopted the strategy of remaining silent or backing these crimes against humanity, we warn the leaders of the brutal Zionist regime and its supporters that the continuation of the barbaric crimes against Lebanon will not be tolerated by the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he added.

Israel has continued its attacks on Lebanon despite the ceasefire that took effect on April 17 and was extended for 45 days beginning May 17 following US-mediated talks.

Since March 2, Israel has been conducting an expanded offensive on Lebanon, killing more than 3,400 people, injuring almost 10,200, and displacing over 1.6 million individuals.

Following the shaky ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States on April 8, Tel Aviv was compelled to accept a ceasefire in Lebanon as well, after Tehran demanded an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanese soil as one of its primary conditions in indirect negotiations with Washington.

The Israeli military, however, quickly resumed its deadly assaults on Lebanon and targeted the country’s infrastructure and residential areas.

Israeli occupation forces also continue to hold parts of southern Lebanon, where they have imposed a so-called “Yellow Line” — a coercive military buffer resembling the regime’s notorious control measures in the besieged Gaza Strip.
