Iran: Playing hardball to the end
On May 3, US President Donald Trump unveiled a new initiative called Project Freedom, presenting it as a humanitarian mission “meant to free up people, companies, and countries” trapped in the Persian Gulf after the IRGC moved to close the Strait of Hormuz in response to the unprovoked war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Trump claimed the operation would guarantee safe passage for stranded vessels and restore order to one of the world’s most critical waterways. Washington rolled out the operation with enormous fanfare, hoping to project overwhelming force and confidence.
