Pezeshkian: Colonialism has no place in future world; Iran seeks ties based on mutual respect

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that colonialism and exploitation will have no place in the world of tomorrow, reaffirming Tehran's commitment to expanding friendly relations based on mutual respect and common interests.

"The definite policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to expand friendly relations with mutual respect and based on common interests," Pezeshkian wrote on X on Friday.

"The policy of colonialism and exploitation will have no place in the world of the future."

The president emphasized that Iran's identity is rooted in both tolerance and resistance to oppression.

"Just as tolerance is rooted in the culture of our people, the fight against oppression shines in the history of this land," he said. "This identity will continue for the elevation of Iran's name."

The message comes as Iran has withstood two imposed wars by the United States and the Israeli regime over the past year. The latest aggression, launched February 28 with the assassination of high-ranking Iranian officials and military commanders, has killed more than 3,000 Iranians and damaged civilian infrastructure across the country.

Iran’s Armed Forces responded with a series of devastating strikes on US bases and assets across the region, as well as Israeli military bases in occupied territories.

Since February 28, Tehran has imposed strict control over the Strait of Hormuz, blocking passage of vessels belonging to the aggressors and those that supported the war.

The United States has enforced an illegal naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in the Strait since April 13, violating a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire between Tehran and Washington.

Iran says it will not reopen the strategic waterway as long as the US blockade continues. Meanwhile, Tehran is still reviewing the latest American proposal to end the war.
