Hezbollah targets elite Israeli infantry brigade, casualties inflicted

Hezbollah resistance fighters targeted soldiers from the elite Israeli Golani Brigade in southern Lebanon on May 4, 2026, and inflicted casualties upon them.

Fighters from the Hezbollah resistance movement have carried out a series of operations against Israeli military forces in southern Lebanon, causing several casualties.

According to Israeli Hebrew-language media outlets, a number of troops from the elite Golani Brigade were killed and wounded on Monday afternoon after Hezbollah fighters targeted them with barrages of artillery shells as well as rockets, and fired machine gun shots at them.

Lebanon's official National News Agency (NNA) reported that violent clashes broke out between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.

The fighting occurred in the towns of Deir Siryan and Zawtar in the Wadi Raj district.

The news report said the ground battle is still underway, and involves small-arms fire and rocket attacks.

Hezbollah's retaliatory operations came shortly after Israeli fighter jets struck several areas in southern Lebanon. There was no immediate information about possible casualties and the extent of damage caused in that attack.

Local Lebanese sources said the aerial assaults hit the villages of Qalaouiyeh, Qana and Debel. Israeli military units also shelled the areas of Beit Yahoun, Baraachit and Yater.

Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health announced in a statement that four people were killed after two Israeli air strikes hit Yohmor al-Shaqif.

Additionally, at least two people were killed in the Israeli aerial attacks that targeted the town of Shahour in the Tyre district.

Israeli warplanes also bombed the villages of Srifa, Qalaouiyeh, Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, Touline, Shehour and Baraachit.

Meanwhile, Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee ordered immediate evacuation of four villages in southern Lebanon, and urged residents to move at a kilometer away from their residences.

Hezbollah, in return, stated it had conducted multiple operations in response to Israeli aggression and violations of the ceasefire.

The resistance group said its fighters targeted the gatherings of Israeli forces and their positions in southern Lebanon with a number of kamikaze drones and rockets.

Lebanon and the Israeli regime extended their ceasefire for three weeks after a high-level meeting at the White House, US President Donald Trump said on April 23.

Nearly 2,700 people have been killed in Lebanon since the Israeli regime went on the offensive following Hezbollah's March 2 operation, according to Lebanese authorities.

Israel is occupying a belt of the south that extends 5 to 10 kilometers into Lebanon. The Israeli regime's military reiterated a warning to residents of south Lebanon not to cross into the area.
