Israel to buy more F-35 fighter jets from US despite Pentagon’s arms shortages

US-made F-35 fighter jets

The Israeli regime has approved a plan to purchase more F-35 fighter jets from the United States in a deal worth tens of billions of dollars.

Under the deal, approved by Israel's Ministerial Committee on Procurement, Tel Aviv would buy a fourth F-35 squadron from Lockheed Martin and a second squadron of F-15IA fighter jets from Boeing.

The ministry of military affairs made the announcement on Sunday.

It described the deal as a first step in a $119 billion plan to bolster Israel's military and "strengthen readiness ahead of a demanding decade for Israeli security."

Ministry director Amir Baram said that beyond addressing urgent wartime requirements, the regime needs to act now to secure the “military edge ten years from now and beyond.”

Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, said that much of this expanded military budget will go toward producing munitions and not be dependent on foreign countries.

He also claimed that Israel will develop "groundbreaking" aircraft.

The regime’s minister of military affairs, Israel Katz, also said that Tel Aviv has learned its lesson from the current war with Iran “to keep pressing forward on force buildup, to ensure air superiority for decades to come.”

"Our mission is clear: to ensure the IDF has the tools, capabilities, and strength to operate anywhere, at any time," Katz said, using an acronym for Israel’s occupation military.

"We will continue to invest, to grow stronger, and to stay ahead of our enemies - to keep Israel secure today and in the future."

The US and Israel launched a joint military aggression against Iran on February 28.

Demonstrating remarkable resilience through 40 days of airstrikes by two nuclear-armed powers, Iran’s Armed Forces successfully targeted and damaged key American and Israeli strategic assets throughout the region.
