Attacks carried out by Iran on US bases in the West Asia region in response to US-Israeli aggression on the country caused more extensive damage than it has been publicly declared by US authorities, a new report shows.
The Saturday report by NBC News said that US military bases and equipment in the region suffered massive damage because of Iranian airstrikes despite having proper air defenses in place.
It said Iran used missiles, drones, and even F-5 fighter jets to target US bases in the region, the report said, despite previous claims by US authorities that the Iranian air force had failed to use fighter jets against American targets.
The report cited accounts from several sources, including three government officials, two congressional aides, and another person familiar with the issue.
The sources said that repairing the damage inflicted by Iranian attacks on US bases in the West Asia region, including those stationed in the Persian Gulf Arab countries, would cost billions of dollars.
The report comes nearly three weeks after Iran stopped its attacks on US bases in the region, after Pakistan mediated a ceasefire to allow a halt to US-Israeli aggression on Iran.
A new report indicates that the war against Iran has dented the US economy and that Americans are likely to feel the financial sting for months.

The aggression prompted massive Iranian retaliation against US assets in the regional countries as well as on targets in the Israeli-occupied territories.
Durning the course of the war, which began on February 18, Iranian officials had repeatedly warned US regional allies against allowing their territory be used by the US to launch attacks against the country.
Earlier reports had suggested that the US lost precious, state-of-the-art military equipment as a result of Iranian attacks on its regional bases, including a strike on a billion-dollar radar system at the Al-Udeid military base in Qatar.
More than a dozen US military personnel were also killed in the Iranian attack, according to official accounts by the US government, which many suspect is an undercount and could be much higher.
Iranian attacks also caused the US to lose dozens of fighter jets, military planes, and drones.
Iran has indicated that it is ready to resume its attacks on US military and financial assets in the region if Washington decides to break the ceasefire and launch attacks on Iran.
