A high-ranking Hezbollah official says no regional and international power can force the Lebanese resistance movement to lay down arms as it is determined to continue the struggle against the Israeli occupation and aggression.
Hezbollah Political Council Deputy Head Mahmoud Qamati made the remarks on Friday as Israel and the United States have been pushing for Hezbollah’s disarmament.
He rejected the pressures, saying the resistance movement’s weapons are tied to the liberation of the last swath of the occupied Lebanese territories.
Qamati also criticized recent statements by Lebanese authorities regarding direct negotiations with the Israeli regime, stressing such talks would not be in the interest of Lebanon and would not yield any concrete results.
He asserted that the Beirut government does not know how to engage in negotiations with the occupying Israeli regime, arguing that Lebanese officials can utilize Hezbollah as the bargaining power in the course of the talks.
The senior Hezbollah official also warned against attempts to incite unrest inside Lebanon and their adverse repercussions.
Earlier, a senior lawmaker from Hezbollah’s political wing in the Lebanese parliament urged the Beirut government to review the notion of direct talks with Israel before it is too late.
The government must abandon the policy of making retreats and concessions, which has sunk Lebanon into a quagmire, saidHassan Fadallah, a member of the Loyalty to Resistance Bloc.
He stated that Israel assassinates ordinary Lebanese nationals, targets their residences, and relies on Washington’s large-scale political support to conceal its crimes.
He said direct talks with Israel poses a grave danger to Lebanon, and grants the regime a political permission to hide its atrocities.
He warned that any insistence on holding such negotiations will cause a rift between the Lebanese government and nation.
Fadallah asked the Lebanese government to shelve the highly controversial idea, adopt the path of national consensus and unity to confront the Israeli regime, and safeguard the blood of martyrs.
