A violation of Article 2
In 1995, the European Union finalized an Association Agreement with the Israeli regime, with the objective of enhancing and facilitating trade, establishing a framework for bilateral political dialogue, and promoting scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation.
Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement stipulates that "Relations between the parties, as well as all the provisions of the Agreement itself, shall be based on respect for human rights and democratic principles, which guide their internal and international policy and constitute an essential element of this Agreement."
A violation of Article 2 grants the other Party the right to unilaterally suspend the Agreement. Numerous international organizations have provided evidence indicating that Israel is in violation of Article 2.
