Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani, the top Muslim Shia cleric in Iraq, has dispatched a delegation to Iran to offer condolences and attend to the families of those martyred in the US-Israeli attack on a school in Iran’s Minab County.

Seyyed Mohammad‑Javad Al‑Ahmad, a member of the delegation dispatched by the office of Ayatollah Sistani to Minab, said the move come after Ayatollah Sistani issued a fatwa calling for supporting the Iranian nation, particularly those affected by the American‑Israeli war.

The delegation, headed by Hojjat al‑Islam wal‑Muslimin Faqih Imani, arrived in Minab on Monday to offer condolences, provide comfort, and attend to the families of the students martyred in the February 28 attack on Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school and all those affected by that “tragic” incident, Al‑Ahmad said.

According to his remarks, the school will be rebuilt as a fully equipped and smart educational facility, upon an order by Ayatollah Sistani and through the efforts of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (PBUH).

The project will be supervised by Ayatollah Sistani’s representative in Iran, Ayatollah Sayyed Jawad Shahrestani.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed by the governor of Hormozgan Province and the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and a ceremony to mark the start of the school’s reconstruction will be held on Tuesday.

The attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab in the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan left more than 170 schoolchildren and staff killed on February 28, the first day of the ongoing US-Israeli aggression on Iran.

Iran began to swiftly retaliate against the strikes by launching barrages of missile and drone attacks on the Israeli-occupied territories as well as on US bases and interests in regional countries.
