Trump stunned by Iranian refusal to surrender: Political scientist

A prominent, internationally renowned political scientist says US President Donald Trump has “committed a foolish act” by entering in a war of aggression against Iran.

John Mearsheimer, a professor of political science at the University of Chicago, said in remarks that Trump was “shocked and stunned when confronted with the reality that the Iranian people and their armed forces did not immediately surrender,” contrary to what he called the president’s wishful thinking and illusions.

He emphasized that the United States, even in coordination with Israel, is incapable of overpowering either the Iranian people or Iran’s military.

“We cannot defeat the Iranians. By imposing such a war, we are only sending a message of stupidity,” he said.
“It is now being proven that we are nothing more than fools.”

Mearsheimer further stressed that the United States cannot achieve any of its stated objectives in the war, citing the absence of a clear roadmap and insufficient military power to do so.

His remarks follow comments by David Zax, a wealthy Jewish businessman and an adviser to Trump, who reportedly admitted that Israel could face complete destruction if the war continues for several more weeks or months.

These developments come as US and Israeli media outlets have expressed shock at the effectiveness of Iran’s indigenously developed drones and missile systems.

The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28 in an unprovoked act of aggression, targeting sites across the country, including schools, hospitals, and sports halls.

Iran responded by launching missiles and drones at targets inside Israel as well as at US military bases across the region.
