Iran, China, Russia hold trilateral talks on Geneva nuclear negotiations
Diplomats from Iran, China and Russia have met to review the latest developments in indirect nuclear talks held between Iran and the US held earlier this week in Geneva.
Late Thursday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on X that he met with Russian Ambassador to Iran Alexey Dedov and Chinese Ambassador to Iran Cong Peiwu.
“In a joint meeting with the ambassadors of the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, we discussed the latest developments related to the nuclear talks in Geneva, as well as some bilateral issues,” he wrote.
“The three countries will continue their close consultations and coordination on important issues within the framework of their strategic relations,” he added.
The trilateral consultation came as indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States continued in Geneva. On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a three-hour indirect meeting with American negotiators. The two sides agreed on a set of guiding principles to facilitate future discussions.
The Geneva talks are part of a broader diplomatic track that began in Muscat on February 6. The process is being led by Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff.

A day before Gharibabadi’s announcement, the ambassadors of Iran, Russia and China to international organizations in Vienna met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
During the meeting, they delivered a joint letter to Grossi, reflecting their shared positions and emphasizing coordination and joint engagement on these issues.
Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s envoy to the UN in Vienna, said on X that the “Permanent Representatives of China, Iran and Russia met with the IAEA Director General Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi and delivered to him joint messages on issues related to Iran. A special emphasis was made on the need for a politico-diplomatic solution of all the existing problems.”

A day earlier in Geneva, Grossi also held consultations with both the Iranian and American delegations regarding the progress of the negotiations.
The renewed diplomatic push comes amid US threats against Tehran and increasing US military buildup near Iran.
Trump has repeatedly threatened to launch attacks if talks do not yield the result that Washington seeks.
Tehran has vowed to respond decisively to any military action. Following US strikes in June against peaceful nuclear facilities, Iran launched a missile operation targeting Al Udeid, the main US airbase in Qatar.
