Iran’s Sunni members of parliament have strongly condemned insulting remarks by US President Donald Trump against Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, reaffirming their firm support for him as a symbol of resistance and justice.

“The recent insult and affront by the president of the United States of America toward the Leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran is an objectionable and provocative act, contrary to established principles of ethics, international law, respect for religions, and human dignity - conduct that has wounded not only the feelings of millions of Muslims in Iran and across the Islamic world, but also the conscience of freedom-loving people throughout the world,” they said in a statement.

The Sunni legislators also emphasized Islamic unity while rejecting any attempt to undermine national cohesion.

While strongly condemning the insult, they stressed that attacks on religious figures and spiritual leaders constitute a shared red line for all Muslims and undermine the principles of civilizational dialogue and peaceful coexistence among nations.

“Ayatollah Khamenei is not only the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but also a symbol of resistance, the pursuit of independence, the defense of the oppressed, and a clear and powerful voice of justice-seeking in the face of the global system of domination; any verbal or political assault on this position is, in reality, an assault on the religious beliefs and cultural identity of the great Iranian nation,” the statement further read.

The Sunni lawmakers also emphasized the need for unity, cohesion within the Islamic Ummah, and steadfast support for the country’s leadership, warning that any effort to incite sectarian or ethnic divisions or to undermine national unity would ultimately fail.

“While warning American politicians about the consequences of such irresponsible behavior in exacerbating international tensions, we call on all international institutions, parliaments, scholars, intellectuals, and religious leaders not to remain silent in the face of such insults and to safeguard the sanctity of religions and religious leaders,” they stressed.

The lawmakers further expressed their firm and explicit support for the Leader, urging the Islamic Ummah of Iran and of every sect and ethnicity to stand united and resolute in defense of their dignity, independence, and religious honor.
