The heads of the Iranian government’s executive, legislative, and judiciary branches have pledged to do their best to address the economic woes and safeguard public security.

In a statement issued after a joint session on Monday, the three officials said that they would “spare no effort” to overcome hardships in the people’s livelihood.

President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei said they are “committed to work around the clock, follow the directives of Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei], and utilize the capacity of the elite and the educated, to solve livelihood and economic problems and ensure public security, through unity.”

Economic hardships, caused and exacerbated by years of Western sanctions, triggered a wave of peaceful protests among merchants in Tehran and other cities late last month. While authorities recognized the protesters' demands as legitimate, the demonstrations were hijacked by rioters backed by American and Israeli leaders, who publicly called for vandalism and disorder.

Authorities said that some of the rioters were trained and recruited by US and Israeli spy agencies to incite violence, damage public property, and kill civilians and members of security forces.

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, repeatedly threatened military action against Iran under the guise of supporting armed mercenaries.

In their statement, the three Iranian officials said the recent “complex sedition was orchestrated by the long-standing enemies of the Islamic Revolution and acted out by terrorist elements and stateless rioters.”

However, the statement added, the enemies’ “dirty plot” was foiled by the nation’s vigilance, as well as efforts of Iranian forces, including policemen, Basij volunteers, and members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

It vowed that the root causes of the recent terrorist incidents would be duly addressed and that murderers and terrorist separatists would face severe punishment. Regarding those who had been deceived, the statement noted that Islamic compassion would be shown.

The statement further praised the Leader for paving the way for reforms under his “enlightening and path-breaking guidance” in the most critical times.
