A renowned Palestinian author and political analyst has raised alarms about the escalating crimes and abuses faced by Palestinian abductees inside Israeli jails, emphasizing they are enduring a systematic campaign aimed at undermining their will and killing them slowly.
Marwan al-Aqra said that the Israeli regime’s unlawful activities have resulted in the deaths of a considerable number of abductees in the last two years — an unparalleled toll that surpasses the total count of abductee martyrs over a period exceeding fifty years.
He pointed out that this serves as a perilous sign of the extent of systematic abuse being perpetrated, which includes intentional starvation, inadequate nutrition, and repeated physical and mental assaults.
Aqra urged Palestinian people, Arab and Muslim nations, as well as all freedom-loving individuals around the globe, to assume moral and humanitarian responsibility, to consistently highlight the suffering of the abductees, and to ensure that their cause remains at the forefront of public consciousness and media attention.
The analyst underscored that such a practice will make sure that Palestinian abductees’ voices reach the international community, and the atrocities committed against them inside Israeli jails are brought to an end.
A media campaign was initiated earlier this week, calling for the release of Palestinian abductees from Israeli jails prior to their execution. The initiative coincides with Israeli authorities’ attempts to enact legislation permitting the execution of Palestinian abductees.
The campaign features field activities across numerous capitals and cities worldwide, such as the display of red ribbons and the showcasing of abductees’ photographs in public squares, culminating in a global day of action on January 31.
Organizers emphasized the significance of transforming public voices into a broad movement and media phenomenon that compels global awareness of the atrocities taking place in prisons.
They urged individuals to alter their profile pictures to include a red ribbon and the Palestinian flag as a gesture of solidarity.
The circumstances surrounding the Israeli incarceration of Palestinian abductees raise significant concerns, characterized by inadequate hygiene standards. Moreover, these individuals endure persistent torture, mistreatment, and systemic oppression.
Palestinian abductees have consistently participated in extended hunger strikes to protest what they view as their unjust incarceration.
Reports from human rights organizations indicate that Israel remains in violation of the rights and freedoms guaranteed to detainees under the Fourth Geneva Convention and international law.
