The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force says its intelligence forces have disbanded a terrorist cell affiliated with hostile groups in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

The Quds Base of the force said in a statement on Wednesday that members of the terrorist cell, which had been responsible for multiple terrorist activities in the Saravan region over the past year, were identified and arrested through precise intelligence operations.

The statement added that, based on initial confessions, the arrested individuals admitted that, under the orders of terrorist and hostile groups, they were planning and executing assassination operations targeting security forces in the Saravan area.

Saravan, part of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, is located 347 kilometers southeast of Zahedan, the provincial capital, and shares a border with Pakistan.

Sistan and Baluchestan has long witnessed terrorist violence against both civilians and security personnel.

Iranian officials say terrorist groups carrying out attacks against Iranian interests in the southeastern and southwestern parts of the country are linked to foreign intelligence services.

The threats against regional security have made a strong and continuous police and military presence indispensable, often requiring swift counterterrorism operations.

On October 26, 10 members of Iran’s law enforcement forces were killed in a terrorist attack in the Gohar Kuh district of Taftan.

The Jaish al-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assault, which was one of the deadliest in the province in recent months.

The group has carried out numerous terrorist attacks in Iran, primarily in the Sistan and Baluchestan province.
