Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian home overnight in the southern Israeli-occupied West Bank, hurling tear gas inside and injuring three children under the age of four, according to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission (WSRC).
The commission said on Tuesday that five settlers stormed the home of a Palestinian farmer in the town of As-Samu, near Hebron, during the night, launching the assault while the family was inside.
Amir Dawood, a WSRC director who documents Israeli violence in the occupied West Bank, said the attackers were wearing black hoodies and were armed with batons and tear gas shells.
CCTV footage released by the commission shows the settlers entering the property quietly before smashing windows and throwing tear gas shells into the house. The children inside could be seen struggling to breathe, forcing the family to rush them to the hospital.
Photos shared by the WSRC show extensive damage to the property, including shattered car windows and a broken front door.
Inside, furniture was overturned and glass covered the floor. Other images show several sheep lying dead, while others stand with blood staining their wool.
Dawood said the family has been attacked once before in the past two months, describing the latest assault as “part of a systematic and ongoing pattern of settler violence targeting Palestinian civilians, their property and their means of livelihood, carried out with impunity under the protection of the Israeli occupation.”
Settler attacks have surged across the occupied territory since the Israeli regime launched its genocidal assault on Gaza on October 7, 2023.
During the olive harvest in October, settlers carried out an average of eight attacks a day, the highest recorded since the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) began tracking such incidents in 2006.
WSRC says Israeli settlers carried out at least 621 attacks against Palestinians and their property in the West Bank in November alone.
Palestinian figures show that since October 7, 2023, Israeli armed forces and settlers have killed at least 1,100 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East al-Quds, wounded nearly 11,000 others, and abducted around 21,000.
In a landmark advisory opinion issued in July 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) stated Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory is unlawful and called for the removal of all illegal settlements from the West Bank and East Al-Quds.
