Euro-Med: Israel using winter as weapon to inflict more suffering on Palestinians

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor on Monday warned that the Israeli occupation is using winter as an additional weapon to destroy the residents of the Gaza Strip.

An international human rights organization has warned that Israel is using the winter cold as an additional weapon to inflict more suffering on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said on Monday that Gaza faces an imminent catastrophe with the onset of winter, which could result in the collapse of hundreds of damaged homes on their inhabitants.

It pointed out that winter weather and rainfall sharply increase the risk of collapse of homes with compromised structural integrity due to bombing and the absence of any reinforcement or restoration.

It called for immediate entry of temporary housing and shelter supplies into the territory without delay.

The monitor said civilians in Gaza are forced to choose between remaining in homes that could collapse at any moment, or taking refuge in tents that offer no protection from the winter cold and rain.

Euro-Med stressed that Israel uses the siege on Gaza as an instrument of its ongoing genocide, creating a deadly living situation that directly targets civilians.

It said preventing the entry of shelter materials and temporary housing by Israel is meant to destroy the residential environment of Gaza and erase basic necessities in order to force residents to leave.

Meanwhile, an international charity organization has sounded a serious alarm about new Israeli measures related to the registration of international non-governmental organizations in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on Monday warned that the new Israeli rules for registering international NGOs could deprive hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza of life-saving healthcare in 2026.

MSF said failure to comply with these procedures would prevent organizations, including MSF itself, from providing essential services to Palestinians in Gaza.

The organization said based on new Israeli rules, the regime can revoke registrations of many international NGOs by January the first.

It stressed that the absence of independent, experienced humanitarian organizations amid the widespread destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system would constitute a “real catastrophe.”

MSF urged Israeli authorities to ensure that international NGOs can continue their independent and impartial humanitarian response in Gaza. It emphasized that the humanitarian response in the war-torn territory is already severely constrained and cannot withstand “further dismantling.”

The Israeli military has killed at least 70,937 Palestinians, the majority being women and children, and wounded another 171,192 in Gaza since October 2023.
