Iran has cited the United States’ long history of hostility toward it, ranging from military aggression to sanctions and the misuse of its role as host of the United Nations, sharply condemning Washington’s hypocrisy in presenting itself as concerned for the Iranian people.
In a statement Thursday posted on X, the US Department of State described the historical and ongoing pattern of US conduct toward Iran, including its support for the Israeli regime in its war on the Islamic Republic in June and taking hostile measures against Iranian citizens and representatives to the UN.
“Military aggression and complicity with a genocidal regime in the killing of Iranians, the imposition of cruel sanctions, and the abuse of the privilege of hosting the UN are all of the same nature, reflecting nothing other than the US regime's blatant contempt for moral and human principles, international law, and the Charter of the UN,” it said.
The ministry added a direct condemnation of Washington’s framing of its policies as humanitarian concern.
“The attempt by the US Department of State to conceal these violations under the hypocritical pretext of ‘concern for the Iranians’ is mendacious and cheap; illegal sanctions against the Iranians and unlawful restrictions on their representatives at the UN directly violate fundamental human rights and established diplomatic norms.”
The statement also criticized the US for using its UN host status as a political tool.
“Such conduct demonstrates the misuse of the UN's host status as an instrument of a bullying foreign policy aimed at intimidating Member States through the harassment of their representatives. Compliance with the obligations of hosting the UN is not a favor, but a binding legal duty under the 1946 Headquarters Agreement.”

Earlier this month, Iran condemned the US for intensifying restrictions on the Iranian Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, stressing that Washington’s abuse of its host-country position undermines the UN’s effectiveness and credibility.
