Israeli forces shot and killed 16-year-old Ammar Yasser Mohammad Ta’amra in Tuqu, southeast of Bethlehem, on Monday, for “throwing stones,” the latest in a string of killings targeting Palestinian youth in the occupied West Bank.

Taysir Abu Mofarreh, head of the Tuqu municipal council, said Ta’amra was shot in the chest and later died at the town clinic before his body was transferred to Beit Jala Government Hospital.

Abu Mofarreh added that Israeli troops stormed the town, triggering protests, and fired live rounds, tear gas, and stun grenades indiscriminately.

In a brief statement, the Israeli military defended the killing by saying that Palestinians hurled stones at Israeli forces.

The attack not only claimed Ta’amra’s life but also caused multiple residents to suffer from suffocation.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli forces also trapped worshipers inside Abu Bakr as-Siddiq Mosque during evening prayers, firing tear gas while preventing them from leaving.

The attack in Tuqu comes amid a wave of killings in the occupied West Bank. On Sunday, Israeli troops killed 23-year-old Mohammad Wael al-Sharouf at the northern entrance of Hebron.

The same day, Sakhr Ahmad Za’oul, 26, from Husan west of Bethlehem, died in Israeli custody after being abducted in June 2025.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) reported that Za’oul had suffered severe torture and a lack of medical care during his abduction.

On Saturday, Israeli forces killed 16-year-old Mohammad Eyad Mohammad Abahra in Silat al-Harithiya, northwest of Jenin, and confiscated his body.

Human rights organizations warn that the deliberate targeting of young Palestinians in both Gaza and the West Bank constitutes a war crime, part of Israel’s broader campaign to disrupt Palestinian communities and alter the region’s demographics.

Since October 7, 2023, when Israel launched its genocidal assault on Gaza, the regime has killed over 1,085 Palestinians and injured more than 10,700 across the West Bank. Additionally, the occupying entity has abducted more than 20,500 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank during the same period.
