Iranian students win gold, silver medals at American Mathematics Olympiad

Iranian students win medals at the American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) 2025.

Iranian students have snatched gold and silver medals at the American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) 2025.

The director general of education of Iran’s Khuzestan Province Nasser Alifar said Soroush Rojhanpour, a 9th-grade student, and Kasra Shirani, a 7th-grade student, grabbed gold and silver medals, respectively, at the competition.

Both medalists, he added, are studying at a high school in the city of Ahvaz.

“I extend my congratulations on this valuable achievement to the students and their parents, as well as the principal and teachers of Shahid Beheshti-1 Junior High School. I hope that the students of the [Khuzestan] Province will conquer even greater peaks of success," the official said.

The American Math Olympiad is an international math competition for elementary, middle and high school students jointly organized by the Singapore International Mastery Contest Center (SIMCC) and Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU).

Open to all grade 2 to 12 students, the competition promotes the importance and a deeper understanding of math.

Back in July, Iran’s national mathematics Olympiad team shone at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad 2025 in Australia, winning two golds, three silvers, and one bronze
