Esmaeili, Farrokhi strike gold in Greco-Roman wrestling at Islamic Solidarity Games

Iranian wrestlers delivered a strong performance on the first day of the sixth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, securing two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze in Greco-Roman wrestling.

In the 87kg category, Gholamreza Farrokhi claimed Iran’s second gold medal of the tournament after dominating Kazakhstan’s Islam Yuluev 6–0 in the final.

Earlier, in the 67kg category, Saeid Esmaeili earned Iran’s first gold medal when he overcame Azerbaijan’s Olympic bronze medalist Hasrat Jafarov 8–3.

In the 60kg category, Ali Ahmadi Vafa defeated Azerbaijan’s world champion Nihat Mammadli 3–2 to clinch the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, in the 77kg category, Amir Abdi fell 6–1 by technical fall to Kyrgyzstan’s world champion and Olympic medalist Akzhol Makhmudov in the final, settling for silver.

With these results, Iran’s Greco-Roman team has so far collected two golds, one silver, and one bronze, marking a successful showing at the Games in Riyadh.

The final two Greco‑Roman weight categories will be held on Wednesday, with Mohammad Hadi Saravi competing in the 97kg division and Fardin Hedayati facing his opponents in the 130kg division.
