Israeli settlers injure two Palestinian olive farmers in occupied West Bank

Israeli settlers launched a violent assault on Palestinian olive farmers near Qalqilya in the occupied West Bank, injuring two men and disrupting the annual olive harvest, a vital source of livelihood for many Palestinian families.

Settlers attacked Palestinian farmers in the village of Kafr Qaddum, east of Qalqilya, as they tended to their olive groves, the Wafa news agency reported on Tuesday.

The assault left two men, 49-year-old Hikmat Mahmoud Shtiwi and 45-year-old Wissam Ayoub Shtiwi severely wounded. Both were transferred to hospital for treatment.

Following the settlers’ attack, Israeli occupation forces stormed the northwestern part of Kafr Qaddum and set up checkpoints at the village entrance, blocking farmers and laborers from reaching their lands.

Earlier the same day, Israeli forces had also entered Qalqilya from the eastern side, raiding a residential neighborhood before moving south to the town of Habla.

The Israeli forces have killed a young Palestinian man and injured a teenager in the West Bank, as the military steps up raids across the occupied territory.

Since the October 10 ceasefire between the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and the regime, Israeli forces and settlers have intensified their assaults across the occupied territories.

According to the Ramallah-based Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission (CWRC), Israeli forces and settlers have carried out 259 attacks on Palestinian olive farmers since the start of this year’s harvest season.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that since October 7, 2023, when Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza, killing at least 68,000 Palestinians and wounding 170,000, Israeli military and settler attacks have claimed the lives of over 1,000 Palestinians and injured more than 10,000 in the occupied West Bank alone.

Highlighting the widespread destruction of Palestinian property, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) noted that Palestinian homes, farms, and infrastructure have been targeted more than 2,400 times over the past two years, displacing at least 3,055 people.
The international community has repeatedly condemned Israel’s actions. In July 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories illegal and called for the immediate evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East al-Quds.
