Unity among Lebanese forces key to victory against Israel, says parliament speaker Berri

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has described rapport and unity among the Lebanese government, nation, army, and resistance forces as the key to securing ultimate victory against Israel, saying the Arab country fully adheres to the ceasefire deal in place since November 2024.

“We stand firmly committed to the mechanism adopted by the committee responsible for monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and Resolution 1701, which involves all concerned parties,” Berri said in an interview with Al Joumhouria daily newspaper published on Saturday.

The resolution, which brokered a ceasefire in the 33-day-long war Israel launched against Lebanon in 2006, calls on the occupying Tel Aviv regime to respect Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We rigorously adhere to Resolution 1701 and are not talking about anything else,” the senior Lebanese legislator said.

Berri emphasized that solidarity and unity among the Lebanese nation, government, army, and resistance forces remain the most decisive factor in defeating the plots of the enemies and achieving victory over Israel.

After nearly 14 months of war marked by heavy losses and failure to achieve its objectives in the aggression against Lebanon, Israel was forced to agree to a ceasefire with Hezbollah, which came into effect on November 27, 2024.

Since then, Israeli forces have been carrying out attacks on Lebanon, which involve airstrikes, breaching the ceasefire.

On January 27, Lebanon announced its decision to extend the ceasefire with Israel until February 18.

This comes as Israel also maintains its occupation of five important locations in southern Lebanon, including Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill, all of which are located near the border.
