Lebanese lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah has underscored the influential role of the Hezbollah resistance movement in thwarting Israel's plan for the invasion and military occupation of southern Lebanon, emphasizing that the Tel Aviv regime continues its aggression there with specific goals and in various forms.

Speaking at a Saturday memorial service in the town of Kfar Sir in tribute to fallen victims of Israel's recent war on Lebanon, Fadlallah stated that the Zionist entity had planned to occupy the southern villages and towns during the full-scale September 2024 onslaught.

“The Israeli enemy had sought to at least occupy the area to the south of Litani River, expel its people, and perhaps construct settlements there later on,” Fadlallah, a member of Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc – the political wing of Hezbollah – in the Lebanese parliament, said.

He added, “However, steadfast resistance fighters who confronted fierce battles at border villages and in various fronts, thanks to the spirit of martyrdom, foiled the Israeli plot of south Lebanon invasion and occupation.”

Fadlallah emphasized that the willpower of Hezbollah and the resistance front was never undermined despite the tremendous sacrifices made and dozens of members lost in action.

In light of the substantial losses experienced over nearly 14 months of warfare and the inability to fulfill its objectives in the aggression against Lebanon, Israel had no choice but to accept a ceasefire with Hezbollah, which came into effect on November 27, 2024.

Ever since the agreement was enacted, the occupying forces have conducted numerous assaults on Lebanon, including airstrikes throughout the country, in blatant disregard of the ceasefire.

On January 27, Lebanon made an announcement regarding its decision to extend the ceasefire with Israel until February 18.

Even though the deadline has passed, Israel remains in control of five important regions in southern Lebanon, which include Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill, all located close to the border.

Lebanon has denounced the ongoing presence of Israeli military personnel, perceiving it as a breach of the ceasefire agreement and the predetermined schedule for withdrawal.
