Putin warns supplying Tomahawks to Ukraine would destroy US relations
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned the Americans that providing Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles for long-range attacks against Russia would be the end of the relationship between the two countries.
Recent reports stated that the US plans to resume intelligence-sharing with Ukraine on targets deep inside Russian territory while also considering supplying the Ukrainians with long-range missiles.
Tomahawk missiles have a range of 2,500 kilometers; if supplied to Kiev, they would allow Ukrainian forces to target areas deep inside Russia.
Speaking on Thursday at a forum in Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi, Putin warned the Americans that supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine would mark a "completely new stage of escalation."
"Using Tomahawks without the direct participation of American military personnel is impossible. This would mark a qualitatively new, completely new stage of escalation between Russia and the US," he said.
Putin pointed out that the Russian troops were fighting against the entire NATO bloc, which looks "powerful" but is actually "ineffective."
"But if we're fighting the entire NATO bloc and we're moving forward, feeling confident, and it's a paper tiger. What then of NATO itself? What does it represent?" Putin asked in a rhetorical question.
Putin also noted that supplying powerful Tomahawk missiles to Kiev, while posing a threat to the Russian nation, would be ineffective in determining the outcome of the war and not result in any changes to the Ukrainian forces' dire situation on the battlefield.
On Sunday, US Vice President JD Vance said President Donald Trump would be making "the final determination" on whether the United States would supply Ukrainian forces with Tomahawk missiles and other American-made missiles with a range of around 800 kilometers.
Meanwhile, Trump is said to be continuously pushing NATO's European member states to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles.
Trump claims that due to the economic pressure on Russia caused by the war, Ukrainian forces will soon defeat Russian troops and restore lost territories.
