Kargil shuts down over Ladakh killings as protesters renew calls for statehood

The city of Kargil, the capital of the Himalayan region of Ladakh in India, has observed a complete shutdown a day after clashes between police and protesters left several people dead. The demonstrators were demanding statehood for the federal territory.
