Thousands of Netherlands residents have demonstrated their fury at the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza by joining sit-ins at train stations across the country.

At least 1,500 people took to Amsterdam Central Station on Thursday, while almost a thousand others gathered at Rotterdam Central Station.

They carried Palestinian flags alongside plates, pots, and ladles that symbolize how Israel is blocking food and other vital supplies from entering Gaza.

Hundreds of protesters also joined the country-wide demonstrations in The Hague, Utrecht, and Leiden. Other cities, including Enschede, Groningen, Eindhoven, Amersfoort, Assen, and Den Bosch similarly witnessed protests calling for an end to the current barbaric treatment of Palestinians by the Israeli regime in Gaza.

The sit-ins at the train stations across the Netherlands were organized by Dutch humanitarian organizations, particularly The Palestinian Community in the Netherlands (PGNL).

The philanthropists distributed flyers, urging people to take action by contacting Foreign Affairs Minister Caspar Veldkamp, demanding sanctions and an arms embargo against Israel, boycotting Israeli products, and joining more protests.

Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, took it upon herself to convey the message on behalf of the city council and many Amsterdam locals, urging the national government to “choose the side of law and justice” and strongly condemn Israeli violence against Palestinians.

“We are ashamed of the inaction displayed by Europe while doctors collapse, the last Palestinian journalists are unable to work due to hunger, children die, and mothers can no longer feed their babies. While violence is used against Palestinians who report in need to the very scarce food distribution, and hunger is used as a weapon of war, our government and parliament remain silent,” the mayor said.

She further urged the Dutch government to “actually respect and show the human rights that the Netherlands holds so dear in our foreign policy.”

Moreover, at least 100 aid organizations urged governments across the world to restrain the Israeli regime, arguing that aid workers have now joined the ranks of starving and collapsing people in the Gaza Strip, risking getting gunned down by Israeli soldiers at food distribution points.

“Just outside Gaza, in warehouses - and even within Gaza itself - tons of food, clean water, medical supplies, shelter items and fuel sit untouched with humanitarian organizations blocked from accessing or delivering them,” the aid organizations announced, saying that the Israeli regime’s actions have created chaos, starvation, and death.

At least 100 more Palestinians, including 34 waiting for aid, were killed in Israeli strikes Thursday. The United Nations reports that Israeli forces have shot dead more than 1,000 aid seekers at food distribution points in recent months.

The US-Israeli genocide, which began in October 2023, has so far killed more than 59,580 Palestinians, leaving some 143,500 others injured.
