Iran’s non-oil exports up 4.4% y/y in 2 months to late May
Latest figures by the Iranian customs office (IRICA) show the country’s non-oil exports rose slightly in the two calendar months to May 21.
IRICA figures released on Monday showed that Iran had exported $8.241 billion worth of goods and commodities in the two months to late May, an increase of 4.4% compared to the same period last year.
Export shipments fell 0.11% in volume terms to reach 24.622 million metric tons (mt), the figures showed.
IRICA said that Iran’s petrochemical exports, a mainstay of the country’s non-oil economy, had increased by 3% year on year in the two months to late May to reach $2.217 billion.
Liquefied propane exports generated some $643 million worth of revenues for Iran over the period, while natural gas exports reached $455 million, it said.
China remained the largest buyer of Iranian exports in the two months to late May with some $2.425 billion worth of purchases, followed by Iraq at $1.5 billion and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at $1.094 billion, IRICA figures showed.
The figures showed that imports into Iran had reached a total of $8.471 billion in the two months to late May, down 7.8% from the same period in 2024 as shipments rose 1.16% in volume terms to reach 5.921 million mt.
The data showed that gold purchases had accounted for nearly a tenth of total imports into Iran over the period, with some $860 million worth of shipments, followed by corn feed at $657 million and rice at $289 million.
The UAE, which is the main re-exporting hub in the Persian Gulf, was the largest supplier of goods and commodities to Iran over the two months to late May with some $2.596 billion worth of exports, followed by China at $2.206 billion and Turkey at $1.367 billion, IRICA said.
