Iran reiterates Israel prime source of tension in region

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian (L) and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says the Israeli regime is the main source of tension in the region.

He says Iran’s retaliatory operation of April 13 against Israel was within the framework of the legitimate right to self-defense and international law.

Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a phone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on Tuesday.

The duo discussed the latest developments in the region as well as relations between Tehran and Jakarta.

The top Iranian diplomat said Tehran has never been for escalation in the region, and the Islamic Republic will always remain the pillar of regional stability.

Amir-Abdollahian thanked Jakarta’s position in condemning the Israeli regime’s April 1 attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, and invited his Indonesian counterpart to visit Tehran.

Marsudi, for her part, said Indonesia was ready to cooperate further with Iran regarding the Palestinian issue.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched extensive missile and drone strikes against the occupied territories late on Saturday in response to Israel’s missile attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

Operation True Promise has inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories. The extent of damage is yet to be specified.

Following the reprisal, Iran warned Israel against taking any retaliatory action and also urged the United States to stay away from invovlement in the conflict and signaled that it viewed the matter as “concluded.”

Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC Quds Force, his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers were assassinated in the Israeli attack on Iran’s diplomatic mission.
