Hundreds take to streets of Milan in support of Palestinians in Gaza

Hundreds gathered at Piazza San Babila in Milan on Saturday to display their solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and to call for a ceasefire in the besieged territory.

Footage shows protesters, dressed in the Palestinian keffiyeh, chanting 'Free Palestine' while carrying Palestinian flags and signs reading 'Stop the genocide in Gaza,' 'Land of freedom for Palestinian people' and 'Stop arming Israel.'

Although Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani previously asserted that the government had 'decided not to send any more arms to Israel' since October 7, Italian Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto informed parliament on Thursday that Milan was still exporting arms to Tel Aviv to fulfill previously signed orders.

Crosetto's statement comes after a recent report based on data from the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) showed that Italy exported a total 817,536 euros worth of military aid to Israel in October and November.

United Nations experts have called on all arms exports to Israel to 'cease immediately', stating that weapons used by Israel in Gaza 'is likely to violate international humanitarian law', according to an online statement from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
