Hamas calls on Intl. institutions to address abuses against Palestinians in Israeli jails
The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has called on human rights groups and international institutions to address abuses against Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, after testimonies by those newly released from detention.
Horrific testimonies from Palestinians who were recently imprisoned by the Israeli regime reveal patterns of custodial torture and severe physical and mental abuse amid the unfolding genocide in the war-torn Gaza Strip.
“We call on human rights and international institutions to follow up on the horrifying testimonies given by Palestinian detainees from Gaza who were recently released of the physical and psychological torture and violations they suffered in the prisons of the occupation, which deliberately conceals their places of detention, their numbers and the conditions of their detention,” Hamas said in a statement on Tuesday.
It added that these testimonies are fresh evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity the Israeli regime is currently committing while affirming that such crimes require legal pursuit before international and specialized courts.
After spending weeks of detention behind bars in Israeli jails, newly-released Palestinian inmates have shown signs of torture, with swollen hands and feet after being handcuffed for the entire period, electrocuted and beaten.
Palestinian abductees also reported being stripped and left to sleep on gravel with no cover in the winter cold.
Israel waged its brutal war on besieged Gaza on October 7 after Hamas carried out an unprecedented operation against the occupying entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.
So far, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 27,585 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 67,000 others.
Israel has imposed a “complete siege” on the densely-populated territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.
