Iran’s police have identified and detained two members of the terrorist groups of Daesh and the so-called Ansar al-Furqan in the country’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

Police spokesman General Saeed Montazer-al-Mahdi said on Tuesday that the arrests were made in a technical and complex operation over the past 24 hours.

Members of the terror team intended to carry out terrorist acts, but they were identified before any acts of sabotage with the cooperation of intelligence communities, he added.

Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has witnessed several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces in the past years.

Iran’s security forces have protected the border and managed to repel almost all assaults by foreign-backed terrorists.
