Iranian Judiciary authorities have executed a man convicted of affiliation to foreign intelligence services, particularly the Israeli Mossad spy agency, in the country’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

According to a statement published by the public relations office of the provincial justice department, the individual, whose identity was not immediately available, was in close contact with the spy agencies, collected classified information with the help of his associates, and provided confidential documents to the foreign services.

Following arrest and completion of investigations by the prosecutor's office, the person was found guilty of “intelligence cooperation and espionage at the behest of the hostile Zionist regime, collecting classified information, directly providing the information to an officer of the Mossad spy service with the intention of disrupting [national] law and order, and propagating in the interest of anti-revolutionary groups and organizations” at the Revolutionary Court of Zahedan.

After hearing the case, the defendant was sentenced to death and the verdict was handed down to him and his lawyers. They subsequently appealed against the ruling at the Supreme Court.

The court re-examined the verdict, rejected the appeal and upheld the verdict.

The defendant also requested for clemency, but his case was dismissed as it did not comply with any of the necessary requirements.

The individual was ultimately hanged at Zahedan Central Prison on Saturday morning after the completion of legal proceedings.
