Occupy Wall Street

Occupy Wall Street was a movement against economic inequality, political corruption, the influence of money and the elite in politics, and the plight of the 99% versus the wealthy 1%.

In September 2011 this grassroots movement drew people from different backgrounds to Zuccotti Park located in the financial district of lower Manhattan.

Protesters demanded accountability for the 2008 US financial crisis, criticizing Wall Street firms and large corporations for their role in the economic downturn.

The movement died down relatively quickly but Occupy Wall Street remains a symbol of grassroots activism in the United States.
