Various divisions of the Iranian Army are set to launch a large-scale and joint military exercise involving electronic warfare units and featuring the country’s domestically designed and manufactured radars, drones, micro aerial vehicles (MAVs) and other military equipment.

Units from the Army’s Ground Force, Air Force, Navy and Air Defense will be participating in the joint aerial maneuver, codenamed Separ-e Hafezan-e Velayat 1402 (The Shield of the Guardians of Jurisprudence 1402), whose headquarters will be located in the central areas of the country and will kick off on Friday.

According to Deputy Chief of Iran's Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, the drill will feature different types of homegrown electronic warfare systems, radars, drones, cyber and aerospace systems, manned and unmanned fighter jets, micro aerial vehicles as well as fixed, mobile, ground- and air-based systems related to electronic warfare.

He said the military exercise mainly seeks to increase the specialized skills of Iranian Army units, transfer relevant experiences to young army forces, and exercise multiple combat scenarios.

Sayyari said the Iranian Army has attached special attention to electronic warfare technologies and training of committed and experienced human resources in this sphere over the past years due to the significance of electronic warfare in modern-day battles and the effective role it plays in future wars.

Iran’s Army has made significant progress and achievements in designing and manufacturing required equipment, relying upon its specialized knowledge, technical know-how and internal capabilities, he said.

“The Army has the appropriate infrastructure, and we have achieved favorable results in countering threats in today’s world and predicting future threats in this sensitive and complicated arena.”

Sayyari also appreciated the unflinching efforts of the Iranian Defense Ministry and subsidiary organizations of the Army in designing and manufacturing electronic warfare equipment.

Iranian military experts and engineers have in recent years made remarkable breakthroughs in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient.
