A young Palestinian died from wounds sustained a few weeks ago when a large contingent of Israeli soldiers, accompanied by a military bulldozer stormed the Balata refugee camp, forced families to evacuate a residential building, and then blew it up.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Mohammad Abu Asab was seriously injured in the head during the raid early on Wednesday.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and officials said at the time that the raid left one Palestinian man seriously injured and destroyed the Fatah party’s offices in Balata camp on the outskirts of the city of Nablus, in addition to the apartment building owned by Raed Shallal.

“We were forcibly evicted, and we could not take anything out of the house, even ID cards and school bags,” said Shallal, a 40-year-old father of seven.

He added, “We are now homeless, my wife and our children, the oldest is 12 and the youngest a year and a half old.”

More than 80 Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation during the raid, the PRCS said.

Hamas reaction

The Gaza-based Hamas resistance movement, in a statement, mourned the death of Abu Asab.

It underscored that the occupying regime’s scheme to eliminate the resistance front and Judaize the holy city of al-Quds and the al-Aqsa Mosque compound will fail in the face of the steadfastness and resilience of the Palestinian nation.

The movement noted that the spirited resistance put up by the Palestinian martyr will keep haunting Israeli soldiers and settlers across the occupied lands.

Palestinian minor seriously injured in East al-Quds

Meanwhile, Israeli forces also shot and seriously injured two Palestinians during two separate incidents in occupied East al-Quds.

Local sources said the troops shot and critically injured 15-year-old Abed Amer al-Zaghal in the Silwan neighborhood late on Friday, as he was walking in the area.

The boy was hit in the head and was rushed to the hospital, where he was reported in critical condition.

In Shu'fat refugee camp northeast of al-Quds, Israeli forces opened fire at a car, seriously injuring one Palestinian man and arresting another.

Israeli forces launch raids on various cities of the West Bank almost on a daily basis under the pretext of detaining what the regime calls “wanted” Palestinians. The raids usually lead to violent confrontations with residents.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed this year in the occupied Palestinian territories and Gaza. The majority of these fatalities have been recorded in the West Bank.

At least 26 people have been killed in Palestinian retaliatory attacks against Israeli settlers during that time.

Those figures indicate that 2023 is already the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank since the United Nations began keeping track of fatalities in 2005.

Previously, 2022 had been the deadliest year with 150 Palestinians killed, of whom 33 were minors, according to the United Nations.

The rising number of fatalities last year prompted UN experts to condemn the treatment of Palestinians, including attacks on their homes and destruction of their property.
