Death toll from Hawaii wildfires hits 110

The death toll from the Maui wildfires in the US state of Hawaii reached 110, up from 106 the day before, Hawaii Governor Josh Green said at a news conference on Wednesday.

The search and rescue operations for victims and missing individuals are underway, said the governor.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said on Wednesday that the federal government had sent 700 rescue workers and dozens of rescue dog teams to assist with local authorities. The local government reported that rescuers have searched about one-third of the disaster area so far.

The latest weather forecast for Maui this weekend shows the possibility of rain and strong winds, which will complicate search and rescue operations and post-disaster relief efforts.
