SUV strikes 6 migrant workers in North Carolina in apparent racist attack

An SUV has hit and injured six migrant workers outside a Walmart parking lot in North Carolina on July 30, 2023.

An SUV has hit and injured six migrant workers outside a Walmart parking lot in North Carolina, with police calling it an intentional act.

The incident took place at 1 p.m. outside the store in Lincolnton, located northwest of Charlotte, the city’s Police Department said in a post on Facebook on Sunday.

All the wounded were taken to a local hospital, police said, adding that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Lincolnton Police went on to say that the motives of the suspect are still under investigation, noting that they are still looking for the vehicle and driver involved in the incident.

They described the driver as “an older white male” and the vehicle as an older model SUV with a luggage rack, without providing any further details.

They also released surveillance images of a black SUV and asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and its driver.

Lincolnton is a small city of some 11,800 people located about an hour outside of Charlotte.

The latest development comes almost two months after at least seven people were killed and a dozen more injured after an SUV plowed into people waiting at a bus stop in the US city of Brownsville in Texas.

The victims, who are believed to be migrants, were at a stop located near a homeless shelter that attends to migrants in Brownsville when they were struck on May 7.

A senior law enforcement official said that authorities believed it was an intentional act. But later the official said an investigation was underway to determine the truth behind the incident.
