The Israeli regime has approved the construction of a new settlement in the occupied West Bank.

In the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, the regime announced approval of the establishment of “Ramat Rabil,” which will accommodate 500 illegal settler families in the Lower Galilee, north of the occupied territories.

The regime’s construction and housing minister Yitzhak Goldknopf toured Galilee on June 29 as part of his policy to enhance the settlements in the area.

At the same time, he announced his plan to bring forward a proposal for the first establishment in years of a new settlement there.

On Friday, Britain, Australia and Canada called on Israel to reverse the decision on new settlements in the West Bank, saying they are “deeply concerned” by an ongoing cycle of violence.

The Israeli regime, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has repeatedly expressed its commitment to nonstop settlement construction.

Palestinians insist on having the West Bank as part of a future independent state with East al-Quds as its capital.

The last round of Israeli-Palestinian talks collapsed in 2014. Among the major sticking points in those negotiations was the regime’s settlement expansion.
